You might suspect that there is a Badass within you. But she's been hiding for a long time. She might feel beaten down by life. She might feel beaten down by grief, or abuse, or health issues or trauma. But you know she's still there somehow, and you're wondering how to let her out.
The writers in The Badass Within were wondering the same thing. Until they came to a point in their lives where they had to confront the "elephant in the room," that thing that was holding them back and holding them down. Fifteen women share stories that are personal, real, and courageous. You will witness their sadness, joy, and strength. It's in their sharing that they release the chains of the past and unleash the Badass Within. Their hope is that you too will be inspired to discover the Badass Within and let her shine.
We want to make sure that we do this beautiful book justice as we introduce you to the authors and the stories they share within these pages. A question that Kim and I kept wrestling with was how do you talk about grief? Grief is hard, it’s uncomfortable and it comes in waves throughout one’s life. It isn’t something you can prepare for with a map, compass and end destination, because after all its ever-changing.
Grief encompasses so much more than the loss of a loved one. Grief can be the loss of an opportunity; a loss of a life you thought you were supposed to have and so much more. The women in this book have revealed their souls and are sharing a piece of them that was lost. The stories in this book range from a loved one dying to a life they didn’t plan while also giving you glimpses of how they navigated their painful losses while growing gracefully.
Grief is like the ocean, far as the eye can see and never ending, waves coming and going with each new day. As one experiences a loss, there isn’t a compass you can give them that will help them navigate their painful loss. Those feelings can’t be taken away.
We invite you to go on a voyage as you read the stories of loss and grief in the following pages. You will discover how each one of these women turned within, found their inner compass and grew gracefully from loss they thought they would never survive.
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” - Maya Angelou
HOLD MY CROWN, is a compilation of stories from women in various stages of life. They share their tales of resilience through life experiences and situations that could have crushed them. No knight in shining armor came to their rescue, so they had to take matters into their own hands and get dirty. Each woman pulled themselves from the depths of fear, despair or betrayal to become wiser and stronger in order to emerge as the highly successful women they are today.
